Go to portfolio review day and show your sketchbooks with your work. They LOVE sketchbooks. Have drawings from life not pictures. Show a wide range of stuff. Pre-College programs will make you portfolio banging, and almost guarantee you an in.

Most people end up at Pratt because SVA, FIT, Parsons, etc. did not give them as much money as Pratt. Pratt is def only second best.

My portfolio was accepted on the spot at a portfolio review day.

Have a lot of observational realism in your portfolio.
That's what they like best, although students who have primarily abstract portfolios /do/ get in.

Like any review, don't let your parents speak for you. Look them in the eye, wear something nice, shake their hands, really talk and explain your style and techniques. Go to as many reviews as possible until you have these skills down-pat. knowing how to really talk about your artwork is a necessary skill that you will use FOREVER, so it's best you learn it while young and pliable.

I attended Parsons in spring of '05 and applied to pratt.

I brought a portfolio into the admissions department at pratt, had an interview, made sure i followed what they ask for in a portfolio, plus i brought some extra, I got in and accepted the offer immediately. Recommend not bringing in any drawings of celebrities or things drawn from a picture.
SAT: 1100 Male

I have taken art courses since 7th grade andJun 24 2007Interior Design
I have taken art courses since 7th grade and have won a national art award. During high school I completed 3 AP art courses and submitted a variety of artwork for my portfolio. Art schools won't look at your SAT scores and grades as much as they will your artwork, the stronger the work the less you have to worry - of course. Good luck. I found Pratt very easy to get into.
